For generations, Yale New Haven's world-renowned residency and fellowship programs have helped thousands of trainees fulfill their potential as skilled, compassionate and caring physicians. What differentiates us from other institutions, though, are dedicated faculty, facilities and resources that prepare you to become a leader and innovator in your chosen medical field.
Fellowships
Our fellowships provide you with the opportunity to train with nationally and internationally recognized thought leaders in the field of geriatrics. All faculty, no matter how much research they do, have a strong clinical presence. You will have the opportunity to learn from preceptors who bring a broad range of perspectives to their clinical work, including full-time clinician, clinician-administrator, clinician-educator, and clinician-scientist.
Did you know that Yale Geriatrics:
- Provides care across the continuum of ambulatory, home, facility-based, and inpatient primary and consultative care
- Serves as a regional referral center for the evaluation and management of geriatric syndromes
- Leads the development of innovative care models to align care with patients' values and priorities
- Defined the concept of the “geriatric syndrome” and did the first studies testing interventions to prevent the development of these syndromes, including falls, delirium, and functional disability
- Helped to shift the focus of geriatric care delivery from disease-based outcomes to the outcomes that matter most to older adults, including function and quality of life
Yale Geriatrics is built on the principle of embracing the complexity in the care of the older person and understanding the multiple factors influencing the health and well-being of older adults. While Yale Geriatrics is known nationally for its research and scholarship, it takes great pride in the strength of its clinical programs. No matter your plans for your career — as a clinician, an educator, a researcher, an administration, or any combination of these, the fellowship will provide you with outstanding preparation.
The clinical fellowship is designed to provide trainees with the tools to provide individualized care to older adults based on their unique combinations of health conditions, life experiences, social health determinants, and priorities.
Integrated interdisciplinary training in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, this includes core rotations, flexible elective options, didactics, teaching opportunities to a variety of learners, and individual support and mentorship.
