The Yale Center for Asthma and Airways Diseases (YCAAD)

The Yale Center for Asthma and Airways Diseases (YCAAD) is a state-of-the-art academic clinical center that is locally, nationally, and internationally recognized for outstanding patient-centered clinical care, education, research across the spectrum of airway diseases, and access for patients to cutting-edge therapies for treatment.

Established in 2000, YCAAD has evolved in both size and scope, but its mission has largely remained the same: 1) Provide cutting-edge management and therapies to patients with asthma, difficult-to-control asthma, COPD, and other complicated airway diseases; 2) Afford to patients the opportunity to participate in innovative research through industry-sponsored clinical trials and NIH funded translational research; 3) build collaborative relationships with community primary care and specialists to provide efficient, patient-centered primary and secondary consultations; and 4) provide educational opportunities to students, residents, fellows, and health care providers around the region on the cutting edge management of airway diseases.

The center is home to three state-of-the-art programs: the Asthma Program, the Bronchiectasis and Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) Infections Program, and the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Program. It also offers a wide range of clinical trials for patients to access novel therapies that are being studied to determine their effectiveness. These studies are funded by both NIH and the pharmaceutical industry.

Our team is based in Yale New Haven Health’s Winchester Center for Lung Disease, which has locations in New Haven and North Haven. We are comprised of multidisciplinary health care professionals, including pulmonologists, nurse practitioners, specialty nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and social service workers. Through the performance of a comprehensive assessment and characterization of each patient’s disease, our programs address the spectrum of patients’ needs and provide the opportunity for patients to partner with us in a positive way to optimize their health and wellness.
