Yale Pepper Center Pepper Scholar (Research Education Core [REC])
Funding provides salary and/or research support for junior faculty within five years of their initial Yale faculty appointment; the proposal must focus on the Yale Pepper Center theme (described below*). Faculty must have 75% protected time for research, with the exception of surgeons and other procedural specialists, such as interventional cardiologists and interventional radiologists, who must have 50% protected time. For all applicants, the career development plan must support the goal of becoming an independently funded investigator. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. In-person attendance at seminars and didactic sessions organized by the Yale Pepper Center, which occur 2-3 times per month during the academic year, is a requirement of this award.

Pilot and Exploratory Studies Core (PESC)
Funding may be used for any type of pilot project that will supportsubsequent grant applications, with the goal of advancing our understanding of the etiology,diagnosis, treatment or prevention of common geriatric health conditions, as described in the PepperCenter theme*. If you have been awarded a PESC in the last 5 years, please reach out to the CoreLeaders before starting your LOI.Applicants with LOIs that are selected to move forward will receive instructions for full proposals thatwill be due in mid-December. Full proposals will receive external review, and projects selected forfunding will begin July 1, 2025.

Biostatistics Development Project Award
The Yale Pepper Center is soliciting full time proposals from full-time faculty members and staff at Yale with interests and expertise relevant to aging research who would be interested in submitting a development proposal in Biostatistics or Operations. Development Projects are intended to fund methods-focused work that will support Pepper Center research. The Yale Pepper Center theme encompasses basic, translational, epidemiological, clinical trial, health services, informatics, and gerontologic biostatistics research.
Biostatistics Core Development Project
(1 award per year, max $35,000 directs)
Biostatistics Core Development Project are intended to develop and disseminate new design and analytical techniques for conducting studies with older persons. The primary criterion for a development project is the significance of its scientific contribution to the mission of the OAIC. Development projects for the Biostatistics Core are judged on their potential for: 1) developing innovative methods that challenge existing paradigms; 2) overcoming limitations in current methodologies for aging research by developing novel design and analytical methods emergent from collaborations in basic, translation and clinical medicine; and 3) developing innovative technologies for implementing analytical tools. The development project should contribute new knowledge to Gerontologic Biostatistics.
Applications are accepted and awarded on a rolling basis. The application window opens October 1st and ends in January 31st if no eligible applications are identified. You may contact poa@yale.edu to determine if the award is still available for the current year.

Operations Core Development Project

- overcoming limitations in current methodologies for aging research by developing novel field or data management and informatics methods; and
- developing innovative technologies for implementing analytical tools or fieldwork.

Translational Geroscience
The Yale Pepper Center is soliciting letters of intent from Yale faculty for new initiatives in translational geroscience. This pilot grant program, sponsored by the Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Pathology, and School of Medicine, is designed to facilitate innovative and high-impact translational geroscience research and to establish/strengthen cross-disciplinary collaborations.
