Geriatrics Newsletter

October 2024

Letter from Section Chief Terri Fried, MD

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Welcome to our third annual newsletter! This academic year, four new clinical fellows have joined Yale Geriatrics. Their dedication to the health and health care of older adults ensures that the work we do will continue on into the future. Read on to learn more about why two of them chose to pursue their fellowships at Yale.

With the arrival of fall, we continue to work toward improving health equity and outcomes for older adults. Recent studies in our section have examined the risk of hospital readmission for older adults after surgery and the link between poor sleep and brain health, among other areas. On a personal note, some of us are learning what matters most to the older adults in our lives (read the Q&A with Barry Wu, MD)—it's not always what you'd expect, even as a geriatrician!

As always, please reach out to me with any news or updates. I hope you enjoy reading the following stories, which highlight a few of the many ways we are working to improve the lives of older people, regardless of their circumstances.

Sincerely,

Terri Fried, MD
