Robbin Bonanno, geriatrics fellowship coordinator and senior administrative assistant (geriatrics) won the 2020 Rosemarie L. Fisher, MD, Excellence in Graduate Medical Education Award for Coordinators.
“For me, this has been surreal. I am extremely happy that the work I’ve been responsible for in the day-to-day operations of the program and our fellows’ wellbeing has merited their nominating me for such a huge honor. It was quite unexpected,” said Bonanno.
Bonanno joined the staff of Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Section of Geriatrics in 1995. She has served for 25 years as the program coordinator for the Geriatrics clinical fellowship program.
Bonanno was nominated by Geriatrics Section Chief Mary Tinetti, MD, Gladys Phillips Crofoot Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics) and Professor in the Institution for Social and Policy Studies and Gerard Kerins, MD, MPA, FACP, associate clinical professor of medicine and program director, Clinical Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine.
In their nomination letter, Tinetti and Kerins said, “2020 marks Ms. Bonanno's 25th year as the program coordinator. She continues to demonstrate professionalism and unparalleled efficiency, acting as the heart and soul of all geriatric education activities here at Yale. During the recent COVID pandemic, Robbin has been a reliable pillar of strength and knowledge for faculty, support staff, and fellows.”
Simply, Kerins said, “Robbin is in a sense the glue that holds the Geriatric fellowship together. Her care for fellows, attentional to detail and knowledge make everything run smoothly.”
