Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service (YAMCS)

The Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service (YAMCS) is a hospital-based service started in October 2018 and currently includes a physician who is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, an Addiction Medicine Fellow, an APRN, and 2 health promotion advocates. The service is headed by Medical Director and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Dr. Melissa Weimer. YAMCS provides addiction assessment and treatment to patients who are hospitalized at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) for a range of medical conditions including substance use disorder (SUD) and other relevant medical disorders, such as chronic pain and infective endocarditis. Patients seen by YAMCS are offered evidence-based treatment during hospitalization and connected to ongoing addiction care in the community after hospital discharge. The consult service is a primary training site for the ACGME-accredited Yale Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program and serves as a clinical training site and an elective rotation for medical students, health professions students, Yale Palliative Care Fellows, and also for Yale Primary Care (YPC) residents and physician associate (PA) students.
