Advanced Transplant Hepatology Fellowship

The one-year ACGME-accredited advanced fellowship in transplant hepatology is designed to give you intensive training and exposure to adult and pediatric transplantation and living donor transplantation. This fellowship also completes the requirement for the ABIM certifying examination in transplant hepatology.

As a transplant hepatology fellow at Yale, you will have the opportunity to receive intensive clinical training at the Yale New Haven Transplantation Center a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary team of physicians and caregivers dedicated to the care of patients with end-stage organ failure who might benefit from transplantation. We are known as a pioneer in liver transplant surgeries, with a strong reputation for cutting-edge research and innovation as well as clinical excellence.

After you complete your fellowship, you will have the training and expertise needed to care for adult and pediatric patients before and after transplant.

As a transplant hepatology fellow, you will receive specialized training to manage care for patients, including:

• Pre-transplant care, including selection and evaluation for transplantation, treatment of end-stage liver disease patients, and diagnosis and treatment of acute liver failure
• Perioperative care, including donor selection, surgical options, and management of perioperative complications
• Post-transplant care, including immune and non-immune complications, infectious complications, management of immunosuppression, rejection and recurrence of disease

You will also participate in a supervised clinical, translational, and/or basic science research project under the supervision of your mentor, and you will have opportunities to submit papers to scholarly journals, academic conferences, and educational meetings.

Before starting the advanced program, you must first complete a general gastroenterology fellowship at an ACGME-accredited or equivalent training program and must be eligible for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Gastroenterology Board.

For the 2025/2026 academic year, we are not participating in the Match. We are open to accepting a fellow outside of the Match process.
