Student Researchers
Postgraduate Associate
Cindy is a medical student at Yale School of Medicine and joined CTRA in May of 2023. Cindy is completing her “fifth year” of medical school by joining Dr. Wilson’s lab to gain experience in various research projects. She will be applying into Internal Medicine residency and is interested in a future in Nephrology.MPH Candidate
William Zhang is a Master of Public Health (MPH) candidate in the Department of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health. William joined CTRA in September 2024 and is working on his Thesis project in Dr. Wilson’s lab, with a focus on comparing personalized recommendations for the work-up and treatment of acute kidney injury, created either by kidney specialists or an artificial intelligence (using a feedforward neural network). After his MPH, William will work in economics consulting and litigation support, specializing in health economics and outcomes research.

Zubin Kenkare
Zubin began working as a postgraduate associate in CTRA in July of 2023. He left the program in April 2024 to begin medical school at Columbia University. During the year he was at Yale, Zubin worked closely with Dr. Perry Wilson and was instrumental in coordinating the WHOOP study, sending out wearable devices to detect atrial fibrillation and collecting data from study participants. Zubin is from Cheshire, CT.
Amrita Makhijani
Amrita joined CTRA in June of 2023 as a Postgraduate Research Assistant and left in May 2024 to begin medical school at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her time with CTRA, Amrita worked closely with Dr. Dennis Moledina in the Kidney Biobank, developing a strong knowledge of study protocols and was very effective at patient recruitment. Amrita is from Westchester, NY.
Sanchit Kumar
Sanchit Kumar, MBBS, MD, started with CTRA in October 2021 and worked closely with Dr. Perry Wilson to direct the WHOOP trial. The WHOOP study compares a commercial-available fitness monitor (the WHOOP strap) to a standard medical device (the biotel patch) in terms of ability to detect abnormal heart rhythms. He left Yale in May of 2023 to begin his residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Internal Medicine.
MaryKate Staunton
MaryKate Staunton joined CTRA in July of 2022 as a Postgraduate Associate and left our program in June of 2023 to begin medical school at the University of Connecticut. MaryKate is from Clinton, CT.
Jason Weinstein
Jason Weinstein joined CTRA in August of 2021 as a Postgraduate Associate and left CTRA in June of 2023 to begin medical school at Yale University. Jason is from Texas.
Kanika Garg
Kanika Garg joined CTRA in June of July 2022 as a Postgraduate Associate and left CTRA in June of 2023 to begin medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Kanika is from Paramus, NJ.
Kuan Jiang
Kuan joined CTRA in 2021 as a Postgraduate Associate under Pediatric Nephrology. He worked closely with Dr. Jason Greenberg on a study to predict AKI in hospitalized children. In 2022 Kuan started Medical School at Dartmouth University.
Hannah Melchinger
Hannah worked as a Postgraduate Associate in CTRA from 2021 to 2022, assisting Dr. Perry Wilson and Dr. Dennis Moledina with recruitment and retaining study participants in the Yale Kidney BioBank Study.
Hannah is now working with Saad Omer, Director, Yale Institute of Global Health.
Tanima Arora, MD
Tanima Arora was with CTRA for three years as a post-doctoral associate and made valuable contributions to several projects, including the Kidney Precision Medicine Project. She left Yale in 2021 to begin her residency at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
Frida Calderon, BA
Frida Calderon, BA Frida worked as a postgraduate assistant at CTRA from July, 2020 to September, 2021. She worked closely with Dr. Moledina on the Kidney BioBank project where she was instrumental in screening, recruiting and obtaining consents for study participants. She is currently a research coordinator at Stanford University.
Michael Simonov, MD
Michael Simonov served as the Director of Informatics at the Clinical and Translational Research Accelerator (CTRA) within the Department of Medicine working on a variety of interventional data science projects. He also served as a Medical Information Officer for research for the Yale New Haven Health System. He is currently adjunct at Yale and working in private industry.
Christina deFontnouvelle
Christina has worked with the CTRA program, initially as a Postgraduate Associate under Dr. Chirag Parikh in 2017 and then as a Postdoctoral Fellow collaborating with Dr. Jason Greenberg in identifying prognostic biomarkers of kidney function decline in children with congenital heart disease. In 2022, Christina began her residency in Psychiatry at the University of Virginia.
Ibrahim Sandokji, MD
Ibrahim Sandokji was with CTRA for two years as a Fellow in Pediatric Nephrology. He worked closely with Dr. Jason Greenberg and has returned to Saudi Arabia to practice medicine at Talibah University College of Medicine.
