Honing Your Academic Writing Skills: Part 1

Are you returning to academia after a break? Is one of your goals this year to improve your academic writing? If so, we invite you to start the semester strong by attending the GWL’s four-part series on Honing Your Academic Writing Skills. In this series, we will cover: critically reading scholarly works and effectively taking notes; synthesizing your scholarly research; building your argument; and trimming and clarifying your prose. Register for the series or any workshop of interest to you. Intended Audience: Divinity School Students as well as other graduate and professional school students in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Part 1: (Sept. 14) Critical Reading and Interactive Note-taking Strategies. Reading scholarly literature is an essential part of Divinity School and any research career. Join us to learn strategies for understanding and critically evaluating journal articles and other scholarly works. We will cover tips for selecting appropriate resources, the process of reading and evaluating your sources, and effectively taking notes. After this workshop, you will be ready to tackle your reading lists and begin your academic writing projects.
