Overview
James Martone, MD, an ophthalmologist and director of international ophthalmology and global eye health, specializes in the management and treatment of glaucoma. His clinical focus is on preventing and treating blinding conditions, emphasizing the significant impact of vision on quality of life.
"The nature of vision is precious,” Dr. Martone says. "Being able to continue to learn about such an amazing organ, take care of patients, educate doctors and other healthcare workers, and work with others around the world keeps me passionate and excited about my work."
Now serving as associate professor of ophthalmology and visual science at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Martone has dedicated his career to improving eye health around the world. As the former medical director of ORBIS International, he has worked in more than 80 countries, sharing his expertise in clinical and surgical ophthalmology. He has been recognized with numerous awards for this work, including the prestigious Humanitarian Award from the American Glaucoma Society.
Dr. Martone earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he also completed his ophthalmology residency. He further specialized with fellowships in glaucoma at Duke University, preventive ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, international ophthalmology at the Bethesda Eye Institute and the Cullen Eye Institute of Baylor University.
