Dr. Erin Walsh, New SWIM Liaison for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science

August 11, 2023

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Erin Walsh will be assuming the responsibilities of the SWIM liaison for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science. The Committee on the Status of Women in Medicine was formed in 1979 and aims to address female representation and leadership in each department as well as foster a connection among all departments at the Yale School of Medicine. SWIM has representation in all but 4 departments.

As a liaison, Dr. Walsh will serve an important role of highlighting women’s issues that are unique to the practice of medicine and in particular Ophthalmology. Dr. Walsh will serve as a valuable connection between the SWIM executive committee and will expand faculty participation to increase awareness and opportunities between the Yale School of Medicine and our department. Additionally, as we expand geographically, departmental gatherings throughout the year will be offered to bring faculty and trainees together.

We are confident that Dr. Walsh will do an outstanding job in this important role, supporting women faculty and residents, and being available if and when questions arise along their individual career paths. We are excited to have her expand her role in our department. As we welcome Dr. Walsh in this important role, we would also like to thank Dr, Martha Howard for her important work to date as SWIM liaison.
