Yale Summer Enrichment Medical Academy
The Yale Summer Enrichment Medical Academy (YSEMA) is a free 6-week program for Gateway and Housatonic Community College students aspiring to a career in medicine. Students will participate in an intensive science curriculum designed to improve success in upper-division science courses that are required for pre-med students. There will be a focus on learning how to become a successful medical school applicant and how to navigate the application process. There is no fee to attend and students will receive a $600 stipend. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and help with transportation costs (i.e., bus pass) will also be available. For more information, please see our brochure.
There will be a very brief application window this year, to begin the application process, you will need:
- Two letters of recommendations (one from a science faculty)
- College transcript
- Resume (including extra-curricular activities)
- FAFSA report of Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) (DACA students exempt from this requirement)
- Personal statement: YSEMA seeks individuals who are interested in 1) advancing the goals of diversity in the health professions, 2) working toward reducing health care disparities, and 3) improving health care for all. Please share your interest in one of these areas. What do you hope to gain from your participation in the YSEMA program? How do you think this program will help you achieve your future goals?
