Research Summary
Dr. Sheares’ clinical, teaching, and research experiences all coalesce around reducing health disparities and promoting equity. Her research interest is in improving health outcomes for children with asthma and behavioral sleep problems and in closing the health outcomes disparities gap in children with respiratory problems. Her work has focused on behavioral and educational interventions to improve parental adherence to medication regimens, reduce asthma morbidity and improve quality of life. Additionally, she led a multi-center study aimed at determining the efficacy of written asthma action plans when used by subspecialist physicians and served as Principal Investigator on an intervention study aimed at reducing sleep disparities in a group of urban dwelling, Black and Latinx early school-aged children. She is currently providing mentorship for a project assessing parental awareness of the effects of climate change on children's respiratory health.
