Overview
Olga Grechukhina, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist who specializes in maternal-fetal medicine, or high-risk pregnancies.
Growing up, Dr. Grechukhina says she was always interested in science. “I love medicine because the human body is like a huge puzzle. So many things need to work out and they usually do,” she says. “I was equally fascinated with developing embryos. It’s such a complex process.”
Dr. Grechukhina says she was drawn to maternal-fetal medicine because it’s a mix of everything related to obstetrics, in addition to critical care and radiology. “You are taking care of two patients instead of one. I love that multi-faceted, yet granular, aspect,” she says.
Being with her patients and sharing in their joy or supporting them through difficult times is an honor, she says. “It’s an amazing moment when a woman who has gone through a very complicated pregnancy delivers her baby,” she says.
Dr. Grechukhina’s interests includes severe maternal morbidity. “It’s near miss-events—when a woman gets close to dying—that lead us to have a better understanding of what we, as providers, can do better to prevent such cases from occurring,” she explains.
