Aymen Alian, MD,. Presented:The role of the anesthesiologist in medical device development: Use of vascular tone as clinical example.

Jessica Feinleib, MD, PhD, CHSE,. Presented The DAARC educational system consist of a formative serious game.

In an effort to reduce VA patient morbidity and mortality associated with failed airways, the VHA SimLEARN center undertook the production of an educational program addressing the Difficult Airway Algorithm and Rescue Cricothyrotomy (DAARC). We opted for a novel composite educational tool incorporating Serious Gaming. The DAARC educational system consist of a formative serious game, video didactics, podcasts and a summative round of the DAARC serious game. The goal of this educational system is to provide competency based medical education delivered remotely to the ~150 hospitals in the VA system. The target audience for this over million dollar project includes all airway team members; anesthesia, surgical, emergency and critical care physicians as well as respiratory therapists and critical care nursing. After 3 years of design, editing and programing the DAARC program is currently live in the VA awaiting validation of it’s training effectiveness.
