Sarita Soares, MD, FACP, and Brad Richards, MD, MBA, were recently appointed to the Yale Internal Medicine Primary Care Residency Program leadership team.
Soares, assistant professor of medicine (general medicine), was named program director. She has served as associate program director of the residency since 2019.
Soares earned her MD from University of Connecticut and came to YSM for residency. In 2012, she served as chief resident, and became faculty in the Section of General Internal Medicine in 2012. Since joining the faculty, she has held many roles within the Primary Care Residency program including assistant program director of ambulatory education, internal medicine clerkship site director, assistant clinic director, and Yale Primary Care point of care ultrasound co-director. She is currently the chair of the Clinical Competency Committee. She has been honored for her teaching, winning the Francis Gilman Blake Award for outstanding teaching of the medical sciences at YSM’s commencement ceremony in 2022.
Soares replaces John Moriarty, MD, FACP, who served as program director of the Yale Internal Medicine Primary Care Residency Program since 2015.
Richards, assistant professor adjunct (general medicine) will return to full-time faculty in July 2024 as executive director of the Yale Primary Care Residency. He has held an adjunct role in the Department of Internal Medicine since 2022. He earned his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and MBA from Yale School of Management. Richards is currently the chief medical officer at the Connecticut Department of Social Services.

Soares and Richards will officially begin their new roles on July 1, 2024.
