As Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Simulation, SYN:APSE Center for Learning, Transformation, Innovation, I have a strong desire to improve patient safety throughout the Yale-New Haven Health System. The focus of my career is optimizing the patient safety environment through the use of immersive simulation as an inter-professional andragogical strategy to teach clinical skills, critical thinking, and healthcare teamwork and communication. I am currently the Director of Simulation for Yale New Haven Health, and run SYN:APSE (Simulation at Yale New Haven: Advancing Patient Safety and Education), a Society for Simulation in Healthcare-accredited, multi-disciplinary, state-of-the-art healthcare simulation and experiential learning center, comprised of a team of 10 FTE’s with expertise in technology, education, project management, public health, and human factors. We provide simulation services to more than 6000 learners across YNHHS each year, with an average overall student evaluation score of over 4.5/5 . Through my numerous publications and national and international presentations, I have been successful at translating our work beyond the simulated environment, to promote patient safety and quality. The YNHHS simulation core, team, and I possess the collective expertise necessary to provide comprehensive support for the aims and strategies of this project.
