Placement and Training Support for after your Residency

Residents at Yale receive comprehensive guidance and support throughout their fellowship search and application process.

Fellowship Application Support

Residents benefit from the mentorship of senior residents, fellows, and faculty throughout their fellowship applications. Efforts are made to provide residents with the flexibility to gain experiential learning in their chosen specialty before applying. This includes the possibility of undertaking external rotations, which can serve either as "audition rotations" or offer experiences not available at Yale. These rotations require advanced coordination between the department and the hosting program.

Moreover, Yale offers a wide range of internal fellowships that are frequently chosen by its graduates. Residents generally report high satisfaction with the specialty and location of the fellowships they secure post-graduation.

Fellowship Participation Rates and Types

A majority of Yale's residency graduates pursue at least one fellowship after completing their residency. Most residents lean towards Anatomic Pathology (AP) related fellowships, although Clinical Pathology (CP) fellowships are also common. Post-Training Career Paths

After completing their training, many of Yale's residents continue in academic medicine. However, graduates also embark on diverse career paths, including roles in community and private practices, large reference laboratory groups, and industries such as research and start-up companies, showcasing the versatility and broad opportunities available to Yale-trained physicians.
