The Physician Scientist Training Program for Residents in Pathology

Designed for physician-scientists seeking careers that combine investigative research with subspecialty clinical practice in Pathology, Yale offers Physician Scientist Training programs for advanced research training in conjunction with subspecialty training in either Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Clinical Pathology (CP). These are flexible but rigorous programs built around i) our ACGME accredited post-graduate program in Pathology (AP only, AP/CP, AP/NP, CP only); ii) our accredited post-residency fellowship programs; and iii) a structured period of two or more years of laboratory-based investigation.

Upon the successful completion of this program, trainees will be board-eligible and competent to practice in a subspecialty of pathology; highly competitive candidates for faculty positions at major research and teaching institutions; and be well positioned to secure extramural funding in support of an independent laboratory-based research program.

Acceptance into the program on this track requires acceptance into the Pathology Residency Program, through the interview process, approval of the Department’s PST review committee, and successful completion of other milestones/requirements as set forth below.
