Hi everyone:
We are pleased to announce the appointment of two new Co-Firm Chiefs to lead the Step Down Unit and Fitkin Firm, respectively. As you may know, Dr. Peter Marshall, Co-Director of the SDU with Dr. Carly Brown, is heading west to become Vice Chair for Medical Critical Care at the University of Southern California. Dr. Marshall did his residency and fellowship training with us. In addition to his role in the SDU, he led countless programs in the Department of Medicine, including our therapeutic hypothermia program, our ICU telemedicine program, and our Pulmonary Embolism Response Team. Additionally, Dr. Janine Evans, Co-Chief of the Fitkin Firm with Dr. Lynn Fiellin, is retiring at the end of this academic year after a long and distinguished career. Dr. Evans did her fellowship training with us and, in addition to leading the Fitkin firm, she served as Director of our Rheumatology Fellowship. Peter and Janine have been outstanding clinical role models and teachers for generations of residents; we will miss them both immensely.
Dr. Mayanka Tickoo will be taking over Dr. Marshall’s position in the SDU. Dr. Tickoo is an exceptional new faculty member in the PCCSM Section. Many of you have already had the pleasure of rounding with her in the MICU. She sends us this introduction (profession headshot, pending):
“I completed my medical school from the University of Delhi in India and went on to get my MS in Pain Research, Education and Policy from Tufts University, Boston. I stayed in Boston for my residency at Boston University Medical Center followed by fellowship back at Tufts before joining the faculty at Yale in 2018. Somewhere in intern year, I found myself drawn to the complexity of end of life care in the ICU especially the role of communication both with patients as well as other providers in a team setting and I continue to both learn and teach skills to medical students and house staff in this area. One of my goals is to try and leverage communication skills along with good clinical decision making to improve patient care and satisfaction. In addition to working on early identification of appropriate patients for palliative care discussions, I hope to create a curriculum for the house staff rotating through the SDU that focuses on basics of ultrasound in clinical assessment, effective communication around difficult conversations and other areas that the housestaff want dedicated curriculum on (I haven't designed the survey quite yet). My life outside of work essentially revolves around my dog who is my major stress buster (and a big source of resilience along with my husband).”
Dr. Elizabeth Holt will be taking over Dr. Evans’ position on Fitkin. Dr. Holt is a clinical leader in our Endocrinology Section and one of our Department’s foremost medical educators. She’s attended on Fitkin for many years, consistently garnering rave reviews. Dr. Holt has a long history at Yale and in New Haven, as you can see from her brief introduction:

We’re incredibly fortunate to recruit leaders and role models of Dr. Holt’s and Dr. Tickoo’s caliber. Both bring exceptional clinical expertise, teaching skills, and dedication to their new positions. Please welcome them both into their new positions.
