Nephrology Newsletter

March 2024

Message from Richard Formica, MD

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The Section of Nephrology has had a busy quarter since our last newsletter. The Nephrology Fellowship match occurred in November, and we are proud to announce that we matched all six slotsthat were offered. This is particularly exciting because there was a decrease in the nationwide applicant pool for the match and only 66% of fellowship positions were filled. The section is encouraged by the continued perception of its leadership as a top training program in the country. In the meantime, fellowship director Ursula Brewster, MD, continues to lead work at a national level (through the American Society of Nephrology) to enhance the interest in nephrology among medical students and internal medicine residents.

The section expanded its access to upper Fairfield County and opened an office at Park Avenue in Trumbull. Yale Nephrology is proud to offer access to its top specialists in that area, no longer requiring travel to New Haven or Long Ridge, the other sites offered to Fairfield County residents. Other Yale Nephrology sites include North Haven, Old Saybrook, and New London.

I hope you enjoy reading more about the innovative work happening in our section.

Sincerely,

Richard Formica, MD
Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) and Professor of Surgery (Transplant)
Director of Transplant Medicine, Yale Department of Internal Medicine and Yale Medicine
