“Celebrating 75 Years of Academic Hepatology at Yale,” a day-long program hosted by the Yale Liver Center in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, is planned for February 25, 2022.
Yale School of Medicine Dean Nancy J. Brown, MD, C.N.H. Long Professor of Internal Medicine,will give the opening address, followed by a discussion moderated by Department of Internal Medicine Chair Gary V. Desir, MD, Paul B. Beeson Professor of Medicine. The hybrid event, with guests speaking both in person and remotely, begins at 8:30 a.m. in TAC auditorium and ends at 5:30 p.m. after closing remarks by Michael H. Nathanson, MD, PhD, director of the Liver Center, and the center’s co-director, Mario Strazzabosco, MD, PhD.
“During these 75 years, hepatology has become a complex scientific discipline with multiple ramifications in all fields of biomedicine,” said Nathanson, Gladys Phillips Crofoot Professor of Medicine (digestive diseases) and professor of Cell Biology.
Added Strazzabosco, “These efforts have resulted in improved treatments and outcomes for patients affected by liver disease. Hepatology is now a high-intensity discipline practiced by physicians with diverse backgrounds and skills. From a platform built on Yale Liver accomplishments, we will look at the path ahead and the scientific and clinical questions that will keep the hepatology community occupied for years to come," said Strazzabosco, professor of medicine (digestive diseases).
“The Legacy” morning session chaired by Desir will be followed by the roundtable, “Yale Liver and the World,” with James Boyer, MD, emeritus director of the Yale Liver Center. Afternoon sessions are titled, “The Path Ahead,” chaired by Clifford Bogue, MD, Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor of Pediatrics and chair of the Department of Pediatrics; Chen Liu, MD, PhD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology and chair of the Department of Pathology; Michael Caplan, MD, PhD, C. N. H. Long Professor of Cellular and Molecular Physiology, professor of cell biology, and chair, Cellular and Molecular Physiology; and Rob Goodman, MBBCH, MBA, chair of the Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging.
