Dr. Yaggi is a Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine and Director of the Yale Program in Sleep Medicine. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He is a Principal Investigator at the national VA Clinical Epidemiology Research Center. His research interest is the clinical epidemiology of sleep-disordered breathing, focusing on the diverse health implications of sleep apnea and emphasizing informing clinical care. Within this larger domain, his work has focused on 3 specific topics: sleep apnea as a risk factor for adverse cardiovascular and metabolic health outcomes, prognostic factors for adverse cardiovascular and metabolic health outcomes in patients with sleep-disordered breathing, and the impact of diagnosing and treating sleep apnea (using home-based strategies) on cardiovascular risk.

Clinical Care
Overview
Henry Yaggi, MD, MPH, is director of the Sleep Medicine Program and a specialist in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
Dr. Yaggi’s patient care and research focuses on the intersection between sleep medicine and other specialties, including cardiovascular health, metabolic health, and cognitive function.
He often treats patients with sleep apnea, a sleeping disorder in which breathing stops and starts frequently during the night. His research explores many aspects of sleep apnea, including why it raises risk for cardiovascular and metabolic health issues and how at-home diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea impacts cardiovascular risk.
Dr. Yaggi’s goal is to emphasize to his patients how important sleep is for their overall health and well-being and to make treatment for sleep disorders more accessible. Some of his research looks at how cognitive behavioral therapy can help patients who have insomnia and heart failure.
He is also a principal investigator at the National VA Clinical Epidemiology Research Center.
