Biography

David Dayya, DO, PhD, MPH is a physician specialized in the fields of Primary Care/General Medicine, Public Health, and Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine.

Dr Dayya received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ). He completed post-graduate internship and residency training through the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ - University Hospital/Union Memorial HospitaJ, and the New York Institute of Technology - Saint Barnabas Hospital Health System where he was recognized with a clinical excellence award in patient care.

He earned graduate degrees including Masters and PhD degrees in Biostatistics through the University of Connecticut.

Dr Dayya earned his undergraduate baccalaureate degree from Rutgers, The State University of N.J. in the field of Chemistry, He conducted research in Electrochemistry, and was recognized with an award for academic achievement in this discipline.

Dr Dayya's interest in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine developed through his background as a certified scuba diving instructor with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and the National Association of Diving instructors (NAUI). He is a Diving Medical Officer (DMO) and serves as a Diving Medicine consultant through the Divers Alert Network (DAN) and the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). He received certifications as a Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC) Level 1 (Diving Medical Examiner) & Level 2 (Diving Medical Officer) through the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).

His research areas of interest and publications are broad in scope and multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary spanning the fields of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, Wound Care, Occupational & Environmental Toxicology, Neurodevelopmental conditions, Pulmonary & Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease, Perinatal Medicine, and Obesity. This has included a central role in directing multiple clinical trials. He has served as a research skills instructor coordinator for hospital institutions and research consultant for industry. His commitment to knowledge discovery is demonstrated through ongoing roles in cutting edge research.

The physician-scientist and physician-teacher roles are very important to Dr Dayya where he has been involved in educational program development and in the teaching of colleagues and healthcare professionals at all levels of training in medical academia from medical student through fellowship. Dr Dayya has been recognized and awarded for achievements in education and received institution-level "Teaching Attending of the Year" awards. He was also recognized at the national level with an award for his skills and dedication to teaching through the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).

At the national level Dr Dayya is a member of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society's Education Committee and Diving Committee where he is involved in national & international policy setting standards.

His medical staff appointments include the Yale New Haven Health System - Greenwich Hospital, Nuvance Healthcare System - Norwalk Hospital, and Northwell Health - Phelps Hospital where he serves as an Associate Medical Director in the Division of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine - Department of Surgery.

Dr Dayya values a comprehensive approach toward the care of his patients in the practice of Internal/General Medicine, Primary Care, Public Health, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine, and Wound Care. He is privileged to have served diverse & underserved communities, along with caring for varied populations throughout his career including service through the Department of Health and Human Services - National Health Service Corps, and through the Indian Health Service.

Dr Dayya's professional goals include ongoing dedication to the practice of medicine, conducting research, and teaching in accordance with the highest quality standards for the benefit of the patients and the communities he serves. His goals include the empowerment of patients in the restoration and maintenance of optimal health. To practice medicine in the tradition of the comprehensive Biopsychosocial Holistic model of healthcare and to pursue these professional goals with a commitment to the mission of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
