i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside)

i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside) is a scalable data exploration and cohort discovery platform developed to support translational research. It enables users to search a de-identified, enterprise-wide clinical data repository to identify patient populations that meet specific inclusion and exclusion criteria.

This test environment is currently available for early adopters to interactively explore de-identified summary count data across the Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) system. Researchers can assess population characteristics, study feasibility, and cohort size for prospective research by defining and refining patient sets using clinical variables such as diagnoses, medications, labs, procedures, demographics, and visit data.

An approved IRB protocol is not required to use i2b2 for accessing summary data sets, making it especially useful for study design, protocol development, preparatory-to-research activities, and quality improvement initiatives. For projects requiring more detailed data or subject enrollment, additional approvals and data requests can be facilitated through proper channels.
