Biography

My career research goals are focused on advancing the understanding of biochemical dysfunction in neurodegenerative disorders and discovering potential drugs/molecules to treat those disorders using rodent/primate models. I have a strong background in neuropharmacology and neuroscience, with specific training and expertise in neurochemical and molecular biology techniques. As doctoral student, I was responsible for establishing a new neurochemical laboratory focused on quantification of neurotransmitter (catecholamines, GABA, glutamate) levels in toxin-based animal models of Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, which led to promising outcomes in studies with different candidate drugs. I have taken advantage of numerous opportunities to learn advanced molecular biology techniques at IBRO Schools and ISN-JNC Schools. In addition, I was awarded several prestigious travel grants (IBRO-SfN, ISN-JNC, IBRO-APRC, WCN) to present my research work at numerous international conferences (USA, Austria, Australia, Japan, Canada) and to collaborate with other researchers. After completion of my doctorate, I worked as Research Associate in the same laboratory to continue ongoing projects. In 2018, I was awarded an IBRO Short Stay Travel Grant to lean in vivo imaging techniques using primates at the NYU campus in Shanghai, China. In 2019 I was pleased to be recruited to Dr Elsworth’s Laboratory at Yale University to be involved and contribute to this exciting project that is central to my research interests. I look forward to continuing this work and pursuing the new research directions outlined in this proposal, which are perfectly suited to my expertise and desire to expand my knowledge and skills in a simulating environment.
