- 00:09So I just want to explain how
- 00:11we joined the latter faculty.
- 00:13Some people think that you're promoted
- 00:15to a ladder faculty position from
- 00:17a non ladder faculty position.
- 00:18They oftentimes use that word because for
- 00:21you it may be it feel like a promotion.
- 00:23If you trained here.
- 00:25If you were instructor before you were
- 00:27actually appointed to the latter faculty.
- 00:30But actually it's a it's
- 00:32a new position entirely.
- 00:33It requires evidence of programmatic needs.
- 00:35So your department has to say
- 00:38we need this type of position.
- 00:40We're growing in this way programmatically.
- 00:42It requires approval by the school and
- 00:45a user require approval also by the
- 00:48university to expand our ladder faculty.
- 00:50In this fashion,
- 00:51we every department has to submit
- 00:53something called a request for faculty
- 00:56position that delineates your expected track,
- 00:58the effort distribution in
- 01:00the different domains.
- 01:01And eliminates the financial
- 01:03support for the position.
- 01:04And this requires a natural search.
- 01:06There are some exceptions to that.
- 01:08For example,
- 01:09if you are a K awardee that you can
- 01:11come onto the latter faculty as a
- 01:13search waiver if you're contributing
- 01:15to diversity or a special expertise
- 01:18is difficult to find,
- 01:19you might come on is what we
- 01:21call a targeted appointment.
- 01:23The offer letter, though,
- 01:24should align with the conditions
- 01:26of the approved RFP.
- 01:27And once you've been,
- 01:28you've signed your offer letter
- 01:30and you have a start date.
- 01:32That's the time for your
- 01:35assistant professorship.
- 01:36That's the time that your
- 01:38clock for promotion begins.
