About

Biography

Andrew Thampoe is an MD-PhD student from Houston, Texas. He earned a B.S. and M.A. in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. As an undergraduate/graduate researcher, he worked in Dr. John Toscano's lab studying hydropersulfides (RSSH), a reactive sulfur species implicated in redox biology pathways. For his master's thesis, he investigated a prodrug system that released RSSH via the Azoreductase enzyme.

Following graduation in 2025, he continued his work in the Toscano group, studying the chemical properties of RSSH, evaluating the apparent pKa's of the functional group in various substituted RSSH containing compounds.

At Yale, Andrew plans to incorporate his interests in chemical biology, drug discovery, and cancer biology to create and/or improve treatment options for cancer patients.
