Adriana Purcell

Adriana is originally from New Jersey, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied Medical Anthropology, Hispanic Studies, and Chemistry. Her research interests lie at the intersection of clinical medicine, biology, and social science.

Adriana is an MD-PhD candidate currently pursuing her PhD in Medical Anthropology. Her dissertation is focused on understanding the reproductive health landscape in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, this work is based in private and public reproductive health clinics which provide care in abortion, infertility, and high-risk gynecology. Adriana aims to define novel barriers to care on the island and seeks to uplift the perspectives of Puerto Rican women and healthcare professionals as they attempt to navigate health amidst economic constraint, bureaucratic hurdles, and governmental negligence.

Clinically, Adriana will pursue her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a specialization in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She hopes to advocate for advances in hormonal disorders with significant social costs, including Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (formerly known as PCOS) and Endometriosis.
