About
Titles
Professor Emeritus of Medicine
Special Advisor to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Medical Education
Biography
I am interested in early professional identification; stories of the profession, patients, New Haven and ourselves; power relationships in health care; and improving the learning environment. I was a junior high school English teacher before medical school and am interested in the intersection of the humanities with medicine. My research interests are in these areas and in ways to improve the medical student experience. I was the associate dean for student affairs for 23 years, through October 2021, and for six years directed the first Master Course for first-year medical students entitled Introduction to the Profession.
I will be on sabbatical from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 during which time I hope to identify new ways that I can contribute to the Medical School community.
