Fellow Focus in Four – Loren Weber, DO, Geriatrics

Fellow Focus in Four introduces you to fellows from each section of the Department of Internal Medicine. This month's fellow is Loren Weber, DO, a clinical fellow in Geriatric Medicine.

Why did you choose medicine? Growing up, I had an amazing pediatrician who let me listen to my baby sister's heart and lungs during one of her visits, and that was pretty cool to an eight year old! I've wanted to be a doctor since then, even though I now work with patients at the opposite end of the age spectrum.

Why did you choose Yale Department of Internal Medicine for your fellowship?

For a kid growing up in a small town in Michigan, going to Yale someday seemed like a fantasy. That dream became reality when I received my interview invitation! Everyone was so humble and kind during my interview, and the geriatric experience here is unparalleled. The broad experiences both inpatient, outpatient and in longitudinal care sets Yale apart. There is truly an emphasis on education, and I am grateful to be surrounded by such supportive mentors and colleagues.

What was your path to Yale?

I attended a small liberal arts school in Michigan, where I swam competitively for four years. I did my medical school training at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and finished my internal medicine residency in 2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was time to explore other parts of the country! When it came time for me to apply to fellowship, Yale was top of my list. So here I am!

What's a fun fact about you?

I can perfectly fold a fitted sheet.

Perks of living in New Haven? Connecticut?

The food scene! It's amazing to have so many different cuisines to try. I've only lived here for a few months, but I really enjoy hiking too (but always on the lookout for Lyme disease, which was basically the extent of my Connecticut knowledge before I moved here!)

What is your 5-year goal? 10-year? Overall career?

I'd like to move back to the Midwest to join my fiancé (and to get married in the next 5 years at the very least!). I see myself practicing in a variety of settings, including nursing homes and outpatient geriatric clinics.
