The 2023 Yale Internal Medicine Holiday Message

December 11, 2023

Greetings and warm wishes to all.

In the spirit of the season, we find ourselves in a reflective mood contemplating the events of the year that unfolded before us.

This year carries a unique essence, a distinctive quality that sets it apart. Therefore, we want to take a moment to acknowledge that, given the recent global events, our reliance on our community has deepened.

Serving you has been an immense source of pride. And, together, we’ve embarked on a journey filled with shared experiences. In this time, we've witnessed substantial growth not only in our numbers, but also in our clinical, educational and research missions.

Looking ahead, I am very excited about leading the department to new heights and intensifying our commitment to nurture a culture that actively enriches a sense of belonging for every individual.

As we all know, with success often comes challenges. In moments of difficulty, a single person's pain resonates throughout our entire community. It remains crucial, as members of our close-knit community, that we stand united in supporting each other, ensuring that no one bears their burdens alone.

This holiday season, we extend heartfelt wishes for health and tranquility to you all–from our esteemed physicians, clinical care partners, to residents, fellows, students, staff and alumni.

Your contributions are profoundly valued, and we are grateful for the joy, happiness and healing that you bring to our community. Thank you.

And may the holiday season be filled with warmth, joy and shared moments of celebration.

Gary V. Désir, MD, and Deborah Dyett Desir, MD
