Introducing the Internal Medicine 2021-2022 Annual Report

September 25, 2023
by Julie Parry and Amy Anderson

Much has happened over the past year, patient volumes on the medicine service reached historic levels, and we finally emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yale New Haven Hospital was named a leading hospital in early COVID care by Healthgrades, and our COVID-19 mortality rates were some of the lowest in the country.

More impressively, there were no observed differences in care outcomes between white, Black, and Hispanic people.

As the chair of the department, I’m delighted to share our annual report.

In it you'll find updates from our clinical programs, research endeavors, our work on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and educational programs.

Our faculty members were honored for their educational excellence. Research initiatives at Yale received applause on the national and international stages.

And we continue to grow as a department.

This book highlights all that we have accomplished together this past year.

I hope you enjoy reading this report.

Sincerely,

Gary V. Désir, MD

Paul B. Beeson Professor of Medicine

Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity
