  • 00:17of programs and education for
  • 00:19the Alzheimer's Association.
  • 00:21I want all the listeners
  • 00:22to know that we, the
  • 00:23Alzheimer's Association, the Connecticut chapter
  • 00:25is here for you.
  • 00:27We hope that no one
  • 00:28who goes through the journey
  • 00:29of living with a diagnosis
  • 00:30of Alzheimer's or other related
  • 00:32dementias goes through this alone,
  • 00:33as well as their caregivers.
  • 00:35And also professionals know that
  • 00:36we are here for them
  • 00:37for support and resources.
  • 00:40We want you to know
  • 00:41that the Alzheimer's Association is
  • 00:42part of your care team.
  • 00:45We have a twenty four
  • 00:45seven helpline.
  • 00:47One eight hundred
  • 00:49two seven two thirty nine
  • 00:51hundred. And this helpline is
  • 00:52for information and referral. So
  • 00:54if you're trying to get
  • 00:55information about a specific support
  • 00:57group that is in your
  • 00:58town or you want information
  • 00:59of a a diagnostic center
  • 01:01that's nearby,
  • 01:02you can call us and
  • 01:03ask for information.
  • 01:05We also can provide free
  • 01:06care consultations.
  • 01:08So whether you are a
  • 01:09professional,
  • 01:10working in the field, if
  • 01:11you are a family caregiver,
  • 01:13or if you are someone
  • 01:14diagnosed, or maybe someone concerned
  • 01:16about getting a diagnosis or
  • 01:18the steps to follow that
  • 01:19diagnosis process,
  • 01:21you can call that helpline
  • 01:22number and also ask for
  • 01:23a care consultation where a
  • 01:25master's level clinician will speak
  • 01:26to you about the journey
  • 01:27that you're going through and
  • 01:29give you some tools and
  • 01:30strategies to help you with
  • 01:31whatever your need is at
  • 01:32the time.
  • 01:34I also wanna share with
  • 01:35you about our a l
  • 01:36z dot org robust website.
  • 01:38Our website has many, many
  • 01:40different sections that can help.
  • 01:41If you are living with
  • 01:42a diagnosis, there's a section
  • 01:44called I have Alzheimer's.
  • 01:46We have a caregiver section
  • 01:47that helps caregivers
  • 01:49navigate this journey through the
  • 01:50early, middle, and late stages
  • 01:52of caregiving.
  • 01:53We have several different tools
  • 01:55online and a few I'd
  • 01:56like to speak to are
  • 01:57one is the OWLs navigator,
  • 01:59and this is an online
  • 02:00tool that helps caregivers determine
  • 02:02a need and set and
  • 02:04develop an action plan.
  • 02:06We also have something called
  • 02:07the OWLs Connected online community.
  • 02:09It's kind of like a
  • 02:10message board where people can
  • 02:12share answers, ideas, opinions, and
  • 02:14get support from one another.
  • 02:16Our website also has a
  • 02:17robust area where professionals can
  • 02:19navigate
  • 02:20and get tools that they
  • 02:22may need and resources.
  • 02:24Some of the topics that
  • 02:25are included are screenings and
  • 02:27diagnosis,
  • 02:28treatment and care management.
  • 02:31We also provide CMEs
  • 02:33and many opportunities for APRNs
  • 02:35and other professionals,
  • 02:37doctors, neurologists
  • 02:38to study online and get
  • 02:40CME credits.
  • 02:41We also have educational programs
  • 02:43for the community members.
  • 02:45We deliver these programs in
  • 02:47a variety of ways, including
  • 02:48online
  • 02:49demand. So at any time
  • 02:51of the day or night,
  • 02:52you can go online and
  • 02:53select a program, maybe the
  • 02:55ten warning signs or understanding
  • 02:57communication.
  • 02:58We also do these programs
  • 02:59out in our community, and
  • 03:00we have wonderful community educators
  • 03:02who help deliver these programs.
  • 03:04They're also available virtually.
  • 03:06We have many educational opportunities
  • 03:08out in the community. Some
  • 03:09of the topics include our
  • 03:11new empowered caregiver series, which,
  • 03:13talks about building foundations of
  • 03:15caregiving,
  • 03:16which explores the role of
  • 03:17caregivers and changes that they
  • 03:18may experience,
  • 03:20supporting independence, which focuses on
  • 03:22helping the person living with
  • 03:23dementia
  • 03:24take part in daily activities,
  • 03:26providing the right amount of
  • 03:27support and balance for safety
  • 03:29and independence.
  • 03:31Communicating effectively teaches how dementia
  • 03:33affects communication
  • 03:34including tips for communicating well
  • 03:36with family, friends and health
  • 03:38care professionals.
  • 03:40Responding to dementia related behaviors,
  • 03:43which details common behavior changes
  • 03:45and how they may be
  • 03:46a form of communication and
  • 03:48exploring care and support services,
  • 03:49which examines how best to
  • 03:51prepare for future care.
  • 03:53We also have programs including
  • 03:54the ten warning signs,
  • 03:56healthy living for your brain
  • 03:58and body,
  • 03:59and managing money, a caregiver
  • 04:00guide to finances.
