Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Guidebook

Valid and meaningful scientific research to improve the health of individuals and communities in which they live has always come with challenges. The way that researchers have approached scientific endeavors has all too often created a rift between academics and community members from surrounding neighborhoods. This is particularly true for those in communities of color, who have been excluded from the benefits of academia and exploited by researchers from academia.

Community-based participatory research (CBPR), in which researchers and community groups work together as equal partners, acts as a mechanism to include communities in research, to ensure equity in the research endeavor, and to improve the health of communities.

This webpage is inspired by our recently completed CRE Academic Guidebook. We encourage you to explore the guidebook for a further in depth look at CBPR.
