About Us

The mission of the Yale Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism is to improve the health and well-being of patients with endocrine and metabolic diseases by advancing the science of endocrinology and metabolism, by skillfully applying new knowledge to the care of patients, and by training the next generation of physicians and scientists to become leaders in the field.

As an academic community of physicians, scientists and physician-scientists dedicated to excellence, we strive to be at the forefront of discovery, to provide outstanding and compassionate care to our patients, and to attract the world’s best talent to train in our clinics and laboratories. In all that we do, we aim to be a curious and inclusive community dedicated to fostering a diverse, fair and supportive work environment.

We are a division of the Department of Internal Medicine and currently consist of 33 faculty, all of whom are nationally and/or internationally recognized for their clinical and research accomplishments. We currently have six clinical fellows, 20 postdoctoral fellows and a number of undergraduate and graduate students in training.

Research in the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism is broadly focused on Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes and Mineral and Bone Metabolism and covers the spectrum of clinical, basic and translational research. Our faculty work closely with colleagues in Pediatric Endocrinology and with basic and clinical investigators across Yale University and the world. Collaborative research is fostered by several research centers within the Section, including the NIH-funded Diabetes Research Center and the Yale Bone Center. Research funding for the Section totals over $12 million yearly.

The broad clinical expertise in the section covers all aspects of endocrine and metabolic disease. For outpatient visits, the section is the second busiest in the department, reflecting the commitment of the physicians in the section to providing high–quality and interactive care to patients and referring physicians throughout southern New England. In addition to caring for patients through Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital, we also deliver outpatient and inpatient care at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, which serves as a referral center for endocrine care for veterans throughout Connecticut and all of Southern New England.

The Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism is dedicated to the education of the next generation of physicians and scientists. The Yale Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is one of the oldest Endocrinology Fellowships in the country, with continuous NIH funding for more than a half-century. We sponsor many multi-disciplinary teaching conferences, including the weekly Endocrine Grand Rounds, which brings in outside lecturers from across the country and world to present new research and clinical expertise on all aspects of Endocrine Physiology and Pathophysiology.
