Dear Colleagues,

I hope you had a relaxing summer. We are now past the official autumnal equinox and into the official fall season. As endocrinologists, we know it is time to start taking those vitamin D tablets again! With the beginning of fall, the new academic year is also well underway. Friday Baxter and Broadus conferences are back in action, and we are interviewing new fellowship candidates just as our most recent fellows are hitting their stride. Please join me in welcoming the new faculty, fellows, and staff who have recently joined the Yale Endocrine family. Among those joining us is Peter Tebben, MD, the new director of the Yale Bone Center. He takes the reins from Karl Insogna, MD, who officially semi-retired last June. Read on to learn more about Dr. Tebben.

As you can tell from the stories that follow, the Endocrine faculty continue to do great and inspiring work. From fighting fatty liver disease and treating obesity and type 2 diabetes, our research is paving the way for novel interventions and therapies. Investigators in our section are examining our metabolic response to cancer, the link between gut microbiota and obesity, and more. And we continue to recruit new investigators and clinicians who will broaden our expertise in metabolic research and diseases of metabolism. Research is but one of the three parts of our mission that also includes providing the highest quality care to patients and educating the next generation of leaders in the field.

I am proud of all of the people in our section and the work they are doing. I hope you enjoy reading about a few of the many highlights below.

Sincerely,

John Wysolmerski, MD
Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology)
