Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship

Completing a fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease provides a well-rounded clinical and research experience in inflammatory bowel disease, and prepares the fellow for a career managing the most complex patients with the disease.

The Yale Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, created in 2001, cares for a large population of patients with IBD, offering a breadth of clinical exposure for the advanced inflammatory bowel disease fellow at one of the nation’s largest hospitals.

As a fellow of the program, you will be exposed to and taught by the multiple specialties involved in the multidisciplinary care of patients with IBD including digestive diseases, pathology, radiology, and colorectal surgery.

In addition, you will take part in the endoscopic management of IBD patients such as:

• Endoscopic disease assessment
• Colorectal cancer surveillance
• Pouchoscopies
• Use of advanced endoscopic imaging such as narrow band imaging/chromoendoscopy
• Endoscopic balloon dilation

Clinical research and mentorship are integral parts of the fellowship and will be tailored to your area of interest. You will be expected to participate in a supervised clinical, translational, and/or basic science research project, and present your research at a national or international conference.

We anticipate that you will submit a manuscript of your research for publication, and contribute to other scholarly activities such as review articles or book chapters. You may also receive training on the development and implementation of human studies if interested.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to present patient cases at a live international IBD conference.

• Number of fellows per year: one
• Length of fellowship: one year (July 1 - June 30)

• Completion of a general gastroenterology fellowship at an ACGME-accredited or equivalent training program.
• American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Gastroenterology Board eligible (or equivalent)
