Biography
Dr. Dorothy J. Gaal is Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Fellowship Director of Pediatric Anesthesia at Yale New Haven Hospital. After completing her Anesthesia residency at the University of North Carolina and a Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston, Dr. Gaal joined the faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine. She has enjoyed being part of the Pediatric Anesthesia Section since it was established in 1992. Although initially involved in research of coagulation defects associated with CPB in children, Dr. Gaal's focus for the last 20 years has been clinical care and education. This includes providing anesthesia services to children having all types of surgery including liver transplants.
Another great interest for Dr. Gaal is International Medicine. She has participated in 30 medical missions for surgical care for children, several of which have been Yale based. Dr. Gaal volunteers for several NGOs both as a team member and a member of committees. Currently, she is on the Board of ReSurge, International.
