November 15, 2023

To the YSM Community:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Carli Gaughf as the new Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Training at YSM. Mx. Gaughf brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, having dedicated her career to addressing inequity and oppression through a unique blend of skills in theatre and education.

Mx. Gaughf holds a Master of Arts in Applied Theatre from the City University School of New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Florida State University. Her innovative approach to DEI training caught the attention of the selection committee, particularly her work at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where she created an adaptation of Theatre of the Oppressed for the medical field called Theatre for Healthcare Equity.

In her previous roles, Mx. Gaughf has successfully led Theatre for Healthcare Equity workshops with medical faculty and staff at institutions such as Brown University Department of Neurology, University of Texas Austin Dell Medical School, and the American Academy of Neurology’s Annual Conference. Additionally, she utilizes traditional educational methods to teach classes on dismantling unconscious bias, responding to microaggressions, and other crucial topics related to creating a more inclusive work environment.

Her innovative approach to DEI training, coupled with her extensive experience, will undoubtedly enhance our efforts in creating a more inclusive and equitable environment. Mx. Gaughf's past accomplishments speak volumes about her commitment to addressing bias and promoting diversity in academic settings, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on our institution. Mx. Gaughf officially assumes her role as Associate Director for DEI Training at YSM this week. Her office is located in SHM L-200.

Please join me in congratulating Mx. Gaughf and in welcoming her to Yale. Sincerely,

Darin A. Latimore, MD
