  • 00:04I've been quite impressed
  • 00:05with the diversity on campus.
  • 00:07I have a sense that people that are
  • 00:10sitting around the table with me are
  • 00:12very much included with the leadership
  • 00:15at the Yale School of Medicine.
  • 00:17You see people that look like you.
  • 00:20You realize this is a very diverse place.
  • 00:23You feel like you belong the office of DICE,
  • 00:26which stands for diversity,
  • 00:27inclusion, and community engagement,
  • 00:29it's really an office that.
  • 00:31Aims to support students, whether they
  • 00:34were dealing with actual recruitment,
  • 00:35retention, with helping students to thrive
  • 00:38in medical school, and with support.
  • 00:40And they oversee our actual affinity groups,
  • 00:43whether we're dealing with women
  • 00:45in medicine or groups like
  • 00:47the outpatients who are LGBTQ,
  • 00:49I plus or like Dino Medical
  • 00:51Students Association students who
  • 00:53are Native American first Gen.
  • 00:54students are low income.
  • 00:56We have a large amount of groups that
  • 00:59support individuals regardless of their.
  • 01:01Backgrounds.
  • 01:04Dice office is there to help the
  • 01:07affinity groups create the programming
  • 01:08and initiatives that they want to do.
  • 01:11Each affinity group has members
  • 01:13on the DICE Office Council,
  • 01:15which they come together monthly
  • 01:17to make sure there's a nice
  • 01:19office is aware of any issues
  • 01:21or concerns. Further diversification
  • 01:23is that is an important part,
  • 01:25but really to do that,
  • 01:27to say that we as a medical
  • 01:29school and as an educational body
  • 01:32want to further diversify, it's.
  • 01:34Very important that the first step is
  • 01:36to really support existing diversity,
  • 01:38and that is really at the
  • 01:39forefront of the DICE office. Dice
  • 01:41was a safe place on campus where
  • 01:43you could go and talk about
  • 01:45anything that was on your mind,
  • 01:47whether it was your own
  • 01:49experiences as student at YSM.
  • 01:50But also if you had interesting ideas
  • 01:52that you wanted to implement on campus.
  • 01:55You knew that at DICE there was
  • 01:57someone that was always there
  • 01:58listening to you with open ears,
  • 02:00who would not only give you
  • 02:02helpful feedback and advice, but
  • 02:03also be willing to advocate. Or your ideas?
  • 02:08To me it feels like a family that I have
  • 02:11on campus, not just through
  • 02:13the events that they host,
  • 02:14but also through just one-on-one
  • 02:15interactions of of support and and
  • 02:17and partnership that really make
  • 02:18you feel like you're welcome here,
  • 02:20that you belong here.
