Clinical Care
Overview
Ilda Molloy, MD MS, is an assistant professor of orthopaedics at Yale School of Medicine specializing in primary hip and knee replacements, including less invasive anterior hip approaches. Additionally, she performs partial knee replacements, and complex revision hip and knee replacements with extensive training in navigation, robotics, and patient-specific arthroplasty.
Dr. Molloy’s decision to become an orthopaedic surgeon followed a passion for helping patients with hip and knee disorders regain their mobility and independence. “I work with patients to redefine their limitations and provide both operative and nonoperative solutions to their pain. I empower them to participate in their care,” she says.
Adult reconstructive surgery through total hip and knee arthroplasty has become ubiquitous in orthopaedic practice due to its success in improving pain and restoring physical function. "While there is gratification in seeing patients take their first pain-free steps after a successful primary total joint replacement, my passion lies in the revision surgeries—helping in cases where there is not a straightforward solution. These cases require a comprehensive understanding of the pathology and creativity in formulating an operative plan,” Dr. Molloy says.
Dr. Molloy also is a published researcher and public speaker trained in health informatics at The Dartmouth Institute. Her research includes assessment and improvement of patient outcomes, development of appropriate patient expectations, and surgeon performance measures.
