Clinical Care
Overview
Andrew Haims, MD, is a radiologist who specializes in orthopedic imaging.
“I’ve always enjoyed the field of orthopedics and dealing with fractures, tumors, and sports injuries, and with radiology, you can get an incredible look at what’s going on inside the joints, bones, and soft tissue,” Dr. Haims says. “We also get to interact with patients as we perform joint injections, ultrasound-guided injection, and CT-scan-guided injections as we work closely with orthopedic oncology physicians.”
When patients are nervous about injections, Dr. Haims says he assures them that all of the procedures sound a lot worse than they actually are. “Ninety-nine percent of patients who receive an injection say, ‘That wasn’t so bad,’” Dr. Haims says. “Plus, we offer conscious sedation for those who need it.”
For research, Dr. Haims’ areas of interest include small joint imaging on MR (magnetic resonance) and imaging around orthopedic hardware (such as hip replacements).
