1 Minute Read

Anthony Cifre, PhD, an incoming pediatric psychology postdoctoral fellow at Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) is the 2025 recipient of the YCSC–Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) Argentina Travel Award. This award is part of a collaborative initiative honoring a fellow who demonstrates exceptional promise in mental health advancements, culturally responsive care, and community partnership.

Cifre will join a Yale-led initiative this summer in San Salvador de Jujuy, a region in the northwest of Argentina, to co-lead the development and implementation of a child wellness curriculum focused on social-emotional learning (SEL), mental health literacy, and community healing with YCSC Associate Professor Cecilia Frometa, PhD. This work is part of a larger effort to elevate the voices and well-being of youth in remote areas through partnerships with local educators, caregivers, and school leaders.

“This prestigious award honors Anthony's interests in global mental health equity and recognizes his outstanding leadership, clinical insight, and commitment to culturally responsive care,” Frometa commented. She added, “This is a well-deserved recognition. I’m looking forward to seeing the incredible impact of his work in Argentina and beyond.”

Cifre will lead a 14-member team of interdisciplinary volunteers including educators, mental health professionals, and Yale alumni who will deliver daily programming at two community schools. These efforts will include the co-creation of SEL toolkits, journaling exercises, emotion regulation strategies, and culturally affirming activities that draw on local traditions, languages, and lived experiences of the students and families in Jujuy.
