Jason Kwah, MD, MSc, assistant professor (allergy & clinical immunology) is a recipient of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Medical Education Fellowship (MEF). Kwah, an allergy and immunology specialist, cares for patients with a broad range of disorders including allergic rhinitis, asthma and drug allergies. He also runs a penicillin allergy testing for pregnant women and has started a program to evaluate severe cutaneous adverse reactions to medications.

Kwah has a special interest in medical education. Through the fellowship program he hopes to improve his skills as an educator so that he can provide educational leadership at YSM, the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Section of Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology.

Kwah is taking part in the Medical Education Fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year. The program is run by the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) with the goal of developing clinician educators in departments throughout the medical school. The program involves faculty from specialties throughout YSM. Janet Hafler, EdD, professor of pediatrics, is the TLC director.

During the course, Kwah and the other participants read educational literature, discuss principles of learning, and design an educational project. His project “Promoting Medical Education Strategies in Allergy and Immunology Curricula: Teaching the Teachers” will be included in the Virtual Poster Session during the TLC’s annual Medical Education Day at Yale on June 2, 2022. “It has been a great opportunity to learn from some of the best educators at Yale who are also known nationally in medical education,” Kwah said. “It also has been a great opportunity to learn with a group of talented faculty members across multiple specialties at Yale.” For more information about the MEF and nomination to the program, please visit the Medical Education Fellowship homepage.

The Section of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology is dedicated to providing care for patients with rheumatic, allergic and immunologic disorders; educating future generations of thought leaders in the field; and conducting research into fundamental questions of autoimmunity and immunology.
