Expanded Access to MarketScan Data for Yale Researchers
Yale researchers now have enhanced access to the MarketScan Research Databases, providing extensive person-specific clinical data from 2014–2023. With nearly 10 billion records from large employers, health plans, and public organizations, MarketScan covers inpatient, outpatient, prescription drug, and carve-out services — all while maintaining strict privacy standards.

CB&B MS Students Enjoy Social Gathering at BAR New Haven
On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the CB&B MS students gathered for a social event at BAR New Haven, creating a wonderful opportunity for connection and conversation. Leigh Clemens, CBB Master’s Program Registrar, stopped by to drop off cookies and chat with the students, who shared their excitement about visiting BAR for the first time. They were eager to try its famous mashed potato and bacon pizza, along with other menu favorites. One student shared, “…it was such a nice opportunity to connect with everyone and enjoy some great conversations (and food!)”—a perfect way to bring the CB&B community together outside the classroom!
New BIDS Faculty Spotlight: Andrew Loza
Andrew Loza, MD, PhD, recently joined Yale BIDS as an Instructor of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science. His research centers on applying statistical and deep learning methods to improve patient care, particularly by enhancing predictive models and refining data collection processes. Dr. Loza also emphasizes how his experience at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, combined with the resources at Yale BIDS, will further advance his work. He recently shared his insights in a Q&A. Welcoming Spring with Interdepartmental Connections
To celebrate the arrival of spring and foster interdepartmental connections, masters and PhD students gathered for the third and final Data Dump social mixer on April 11. Hosted by Kevin Jin (left), a second-year PhD student in the CBB program and member of the Clinical NLP Lab - the event took place on the 14th floor of 100 College and brought together students from six different programs. With food, drinks, activities, prizes, and lively music (including a healthy dose of Lady Gaga), the mixer offered a fun and inclusive space for students to connect, unwind, and celebrate community across departments.
