Biography
Dr. Phatak received her medical degree from India and completed her Pediatric internship and residency at Goryeb Children’s hospital in NJ. She completed her fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Yale New Haven Children’s hospital. During fellowship, Dr Phatak's research focused on understanding the immune mechanisms in children with inflammatory bowel disease. She provides care to children with inflammatory bowel disease at the multidisciplinary pediatric IBD clinic on Tuesday mornings at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital in New Haven.

Overview
Uma Phatak, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist whose focus is on treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease. She says that her patients are a constant source of inspiration.
“They teach me the importance of resilience,” Dr. Phatak says. “I love seeing them get better and thrive, and I hope to assure them that we are in this together.”
Dr. Phatak treats inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, weight loss, growth issues, constipation, and gastroesophageal reflux are common symptoms among her patients.
She also performs video capsule endoscopies in children. She sees her patients at the multidisciplinary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital in New Haven.
Dr. Phatak is the director of the medical student clerkship for the department of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine.
