"Dr. Akhiwu grew up in Benin City, Nigeria, and earned her degree in Psychology from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. She went on to complete her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana and an Internal Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
As a pulmonary and critical care specialist, Dr. Akhiwu is committed to understanding and reducing disparities in these fields. Outside of her medical career, she enjoys cooking, reading contemporary African literature, and spending quality time with her husband and children".
