Overview
A pediatric intensive care doctor, Michael Canarie, MD, says being part of a team that is always pushing toward one goal—to make critically ill children better—is the best part of his job.
“I work with tremendous people at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. And when you’re part of a smoothly functioning team, you are able to focus not just on the care of one patient, but on the care of all children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit,” Dr. Canarie says.
Dr. Canarie says he also enjoys working with families. “It’s rewarding to establish trust with them and to bring them some comfort,” he says.
When he isn’t treating patients at Yale, Dr. Canarie works to develop critical care programs in resource-limited settings. For example, he has traveled to Rwanda to volunteer with Human Resources for Health, an initiative from the nonprofit Clinton Health Access Initiative.
Dr. Canarie is an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine.
