Avon was born and raised in New Haven, CT. She is proudly the product of the New Haven Public School System. She is the Clinical Director of the Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven, CT and she is the first Black person to serve in the role as Clinical Director of CMHC. Avon has worked at CMHC for 30+ years. Prior to her current role she was the Associate Clinical Director. She is a member of the Senior Leadership Group at CMHC. Avon began her career with the intention of wanting to become a Nurse, and in the 1980's, she began working as a Mental Health Worker at the now-closed Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, CT. While working at Fairfield Hills, she began to hone her skills and begin working towards ending stigma that has followed people with mental illness. Avon is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
